FRONT PAGE NEWS, a collaboration of five east Tennessee nonprofits, is coproduced by Dayton’s Scopes Festival and Cumberland County Playhouse (CCP), with support from City of Dayton, Rhea County, Tennessee Arts Commission, and assistance from Tennessee Valley Theater, Bryan College, and the Professional Actor Training Program at Chattanooga State Community College.  Bryan College alum Alexis Landry, newly named theater program director at Bryan, serves as Production Stage Manager and Associate Director.

The show was featured nationally by Smithsonian Magazine; Associated Press coverage and photos; full color in Chattanooga Times/Free Press, and in Nashville Tennessean and Knoxville News-Sentinel. It was filmed and edited in HD video and broadcast by WCTE-TV PBS in Cookeville in fall ’17, and will be on statewide PBS stations in late Spring, 2018, with support from Rhea Heritage Preservation Foundation and MainStreet Dayton.

Written and adapted by Nashville Billboard Top-5 songwriter Bobby Taylor,  and CCP Consulting Producer/past CEO  Jim Crabtree,  from a play by Deborah Harbin, with original songs by Crabtree and Taylor),  FRONT PAGE NEWS traces roots and events of the famous “Monkey Trial”, recreated in the historic courtroom where 1925’s “world’s most famous trial” took place.  Unlike heavily fictionalized Broadway and Hollywood drama and film Inherit the WindFRONT PAGE NEWS is historically accurate, while  capturing the spirit of a “small town” host community,  with music of the church and region,  and the   “world’s first full-tilt media circus--with  international reporters, the first remote  radio broadcast, revivalists, politicians--plus believers in Darwin, the Bible, and the USA’s Constitution.
