Comic Masterpiece The Mikado at the the Cumberland County Playhouse

The MikadoThe Cumberland County Playhouse is pleased to announce their first full Gilbert & Sullivan production, The Mikado, a comic musical masterpiece! The Mikado opens on July 12 and runs through August 30. Director Abigail Crabtree, states “The Mikado is without doubt the most popular piece of musical theatre ever written in the English language. The Mikado is full of energy, beautiful costumes, music, and features hilarious performances from the company."

Join the Playhouse cast as you’ve never seen them before! The show opens in the Japanese town of Titipu. Nanki-Poo, son of "The great and virtuous Mikado," has fled from Court to avoid marriage with Katisha. Elderly and ugly, she describes herself as "an acquired taste." Daniel Black portrays the role of Nanki-Poo and Crossville resident, Brenda Frye, portrays Katisha.

While in the disguise, Nanki-Poo has met the lovely Yum-Yum and fallen in love with her. Yum-Yum is officially engaged to her guardian Ko-Ko, a ‘cheap tailor.' Playhouse favorites, Nicole Begue and Jason Ross, portray Yum-Yum and Ko-Ko. Nanki-Poo later learns that Ko-Ko had been condemned to death for flirting, but now, to his dismay, he learns that Ko-Ko has been reprieved and raised to the exalted rank of Lord High Executioner, the highest rank a citizen can attain. This very day Yum-Yum is returning from school to be married to her guardian.
