The Playhouse presents
the world professional premiere of the latest
installment in the Sanders Family Southern Baptist Tradition, entitled Smoke
on the Mountain Homecoming. The show is sponsored by First National
Bank of Tennessee.
“We’re excited that the authors chose the Playhouse for the first professional production,” expressed CCP Associate Producing Director Abigail Crabtree. “We’re also pleased to offer our customers the only production of Homecoming this year in Middle and East Tennessee, and to be the only theater in America producing all three Sanders family shows in the ’07 season.”
The Playhouse has a 13-year history with the musical series, written by Connie Ray & Alan Bailey, having produced Smoke on the Mountain every year since 1994, and A Sanders Family Christmas every year since 2000.
Smoke
on the Mountain Homecoming runs from through May 27. Smoke
on the Mountain runs from May 24 through October 27, and A
Sanders Family Christmas runs from November 1 through December
23.
In Homecoming, it's October, 1945, and the gospel-singing Sanders
Family is back together again. The war is over and America's years
of prosperity are just beginning. But there's another kind of rite of passage
at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe is giving
his last service. He's been called to preach in Texas, and he's already bought
a ten-gallon hat and is preparing to ride into the sunset with his wife June,
who is eight months pregnant. Denise and her husband join Mervin and June in
starting the baby boom. Tomorrow morning, young Dennis Sanders takes over as
Mount Pleasant's pastor. Join the Sanders Family as they send Mervin and June
off in style, with hilarious and touching stories and twenty-five toe-tapping
Bluegrass Gospel favorites.
Jason Ross returns as Rev. Mervin Oglethorpe, alongside a veteran
cast of Smoke actors including Victor Anthony as Burl Sanders, Daniel
Black as Dennis Sanders, Jesse Graham as June Sanders, Tommy Hancock as Stanley,
Vicki Heidle as Vera Sanders, & Summer Dawn Wallace as Denise Sanders.
Rhonda Wallace directs this talented ensemble featuring
both new and traditional songs.
Don’t miss the chance to see this world professional premiere production
of Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming at the Playhouse and then come back
to see the original and the second installment in the Smoke series later on in
the season. Tickets are $23 for Adults, $22 for Seniors, $20 for Groups (15 0r
more Adults/Seniors) and $13 for Children/Students.
