Disney's High School Musical returns to the stage at the Cumberland County Playhouse

High School Musical

Tennessee’s top teenage talent stars in Disney’s High School Musical, opening February 29 at the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN.

High School Musical is one of the hottest pop musical favorites today and is sponsored by CCP Education Sponsor Hughes Real Estate Services. The smash-hit movie musical from the Disney Channel comes to life on stage featuring the talents of nearly 40 students from East and Middle Tennessee counties and high schools, working with the Playhouse’s professional directors, designers and choreographers. The phenomenon surrounding this show has been taking the country by storm and now the live stage version can be seen at the Playhouse through April 26.

Disney’s High School Musical is a story of two high school students: Troy Bolton (played by Austin Price and Justin Webb), who is captain of his school's basketball team, and Gabriella Montez (played by Stormi Henley and Kristin Galloway) a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella persist and inspire others along the way, as the jocks and cheerleaders meet and befriend the theater kids, brainiacs, skater dudes other high school subcultures.

The Playhouse provides performing arts training and experience to hundreds of area youth each year. Stars of High School Musical include Tennessee teens from Cumberland, Blount, Fentress, Scott, Knox, Roane, Putnam, Morgan, and Rhea counties.

High School Musical is a treat for former teenagers, and soon-to-be-teenagers, who connect to the joyful days of High School where memories come to life. Parents are especially welcome, and coaching of the older generation is permitted, by teens and tweens who know the movie and songs from memory. Disney’s High School Musical is the younger generation’s Grease!, so parents and grandparents should take this opportunity to see the show that is captivating America’s kids.

Also showing at the Cumberland County Playhouse is the family musical Peter Pan sponsored by Dr. Stanley Bise, MD with additional support from CCP Education Sponsor Hughes Real Estate Services. Tickets for High School Musical and Peter Pan are $20 for Adults, $19 for Seniors, $17 for Groups (15 or more Adults/Seniors), and $11 Children/Students. Tickets can be purchased from the Playhouse Box Office at 931-484-5000.
